This is the first week back for term 4 after the holidays.

My goals for this term are:
Reading: To read a different variety of books and not just the same kind all the time.
Writing: To use better vocab in my writing and use more complex sentences, and not just simple ones.
Maths: To improve all of my maths and also to write better learning reflections.

This term I really want to try and improve in all subjects, and extend all of my knowledge.

Week 7, Term 3

Last week we learnt how to find the different angles and how to name them, such as obtuse, acute, reflex, revolution and straight. We also learnt about polygons and the number of triangle inside different shapes. If a shape had five sides it has three triangles, because you just take away two. Then you do the number of triangles (three) and multiply it by 180, so the angle amount would be 540. We also started a new tech art- science. We learnt about forces and motions and why objects don't move once they hit the ground. We also learnt about different tastes, such as bitter, bland, sour, sweet and salty.

We also learnt how to do ratio, which is a lot like fractions, just written in a different way.
In tech arts, i learnt how to make a box. First, I cut out the wood pieces and nailed them together, then I cut out out the lid. And finally, I screwed hinges on to make it open and close. All of the production people were out last week, so we had a lot of people from room fourteen in our class.

Weeks 4&5, Term 2

The past two weeks we were focusing on decimals and fractions. We did a test on them and then did practice work on what we didn't know. I learnt how to multiply and divide with decimals using the algorithms. We also learnt about apostrophes in English. If it belongs to something singular, it's apostrophe s, but if  it's plural it's just an apostrophe. We also did ICAS science. I tech arts we made a simple practice circuit. I learnt what the national symbols were switch and battery, and also how to use a soldering iron.

Week 3, Term 2

Last week we started a new tech art. We are doing design which is woodwork and hard materials. We are going to be making and cutting out the first letter of our first name, and making it light up with LED lights.
We also had music camp last week over Wednesday and Thursday. We had rehearsal from ten o'clock until seven thirty on Wednesday, and on Thursday it was rehearsal all day, nine o'clock to three o'clock. Just normal school hours. We then had to come back at six thirty to set up for the concert, tune our instruments, and get ready with your instrument group. I played the trumpet. We had to play nine different songs including Rolling In The Deep, Skyfall and The Final Countdown. Two were combined with the choir, Hang On Sloopy and I Will Follow Him. Even though we didn't stay the night, it was still a camp because we were joined with Matamata and Cambridge intermediates, who did stay the night.

I also learnt something in P.E. It was involving volleyball. I learnt how to do a proper bump, which is when you place one hand on top of the other, and hit the ball between the end or your wrist, and you elbow, with your palms facing up. In tech arts, I learnt about how to paint Maori koru designs and their meanings within their patterns, to represent people in your family. For instance the Mango pare, is a pattern designed after the great white shark. It resembles strength and is a sign of being tough. Term 1 Reflections.

This is the last week of my first term at intermediate. It was really a term for getting used to everything and everyone, and making new friends and trying new things. I've really enjoyed it so far, and have tried so many new things already. I feel like I've settled in really well and have made new friends really quickly. Over just the last term I have learnt so many new things in my learning- especially maths. From factors and multiples, to compound and complex sentences. But not just in those subjects. We have also finished our first tech arts for the year, music. I've learnt how to play the multiple chords on the ukulele, an instrument I have never even touched before. I also know about famous composers I have never heard of before, and can now confidently read notes and play that rhythm on the drums. Another tech art we have started is art. I have learnt the names for traditional Maori koru patterns and designs, and the story behind them. I've also learnt about how to make effective patterns using the negative space of a rectangle or square. We also did blending with pastels and crayons, and learnt about the colour wheel and how to make blends that will look really effective. But I've also learnt so much in French. I know how to greet people properly and use their proper titles. Also how to say goodnight, see you tomorrow, see you soon and a couple more. We also learnt about French geography and history and the French and English names of cities in France and New Zealand. I've started to play the trumpet for the band, and am really enjoying it. I have also auditioned for the production. In P.E, I've learnt how to play softball and danish rounders. Two sports I have never even heard of before. I've taken part in all of the inter-house activities so far. And on top of all that we've been on camp in wellington, which was such a great experience. But I feel like most activities I have participated in this term have all been great experiences, and I can't wait for more. I've settled in really well, and have listened to the teacher and handed all my work in on time. I've done really well in all of my subjects and have learnt a lot about maths and writing. I've been excited by all of the great activities that have taken place this term, I can't wait for next term!

Wellington

Last week we were away on camp in Wellington. We did a lot of different activities around Wellington, and they were all great experiences. One of my favourite things on camp would definitely be going to the Weta Workshop. We got to look around and even touch some of the things that were used in real movies. We learnt about how they paint the props and mould all of the faces for human characters. But another thing that I found interesting was at Capital E. In the ONTV studio, we got to use and play around with all of the equipment that they actually use for TV shows and programs. There were so many new equipment pieces that I've never seen before, like the auto cue and all the fancy lights. At the Wellington Zoo, I got to see tarantulas that I have never seen before! But my favourite animal at the zoo would be the otters. We also went snorkelling at Island Bay. We were told to put on wet suits and hoods, and the flippers and a mask and snorkel. It was freezing, but we still got to see heaps and heaps of underwater things that I had never seen before. There were different kinds of plants and seaweed that I had never seen. We also saw a whole school of fish, and an eagle-ray passed underneath us. Everything in Wellington was a great experience and it was a really fun camp to be a part of.

Weeks 6&7, Term 1

Something I have learnt in the past two weeks was around maths. I've learnt about factors, multiples, prime numbers, and prime factors. I have learnt how to draw up factor trees and how to find the lowest common multiple (LCM) and the highest common factor (HCF). I also learnt about BEDMAS and order of operations. We also learnt about proper capitalisation when we do our writing. How to identify awubis words and appositives. And we also learnt about commas, and why they come before a fanboy.
I also learnt about the Holocaust. I read articles and learnt about why/how there was a Holocaust in the first place. I then read some stories written by survivors of the concentration camps, and learnt about how terrible life actually was there.

Week 5, Term 1

Last week, we learnt about estimation in maths. We were taught how to estimate the answer to multiplications and additions. Another thing that I learnt was how to do algorithms for subtraction. In english we learnt the difference between simple sentences, compound sentences, complex sentences, and compound-complex sentences. We learnt about fanboys and awubis words, and how just one of those can change a simple sentence to a complex sentence.

Week 4, Term 1.

This week, we learnt about rounding  numbers. Something I did not know about rounding numbers, was about the significant figures.  But I also learnt something else in French. We learnt how to properly greet people and to give them their proper titles.  There are different greetings for the morning, the evening, and five proper titles for the people once you greet them. And in music, I've learnt how to read and play really easy tunes on the keyboard, and we've studied the traditional music and dances of the Maori and the Fijian culture.

Week 3, Term 1.

Just like my first week, I have learnt so many things in just five days. One of the biggest things I have learnt this week, has been in maths. We did a maths test to see where we were at, and then the things we didn't get right or struggled with, our teacher helped us understand. The thing that I learnt, was to do with place value. We learnt the difference between, place value, total value and face value.

Start Of Year Reflections

I have just completed my second week of my new school.
One thing that I have enjoyed since the very first day, has been tech arts. All the year sevens in my class have already done two music classes. We've learnt four chords on the ukulele, and played  simple tunes on the keyboard.
I've already made heaps of friends and I am definitely looking forward to the rest of my time at intermediate!
